History of Motiview

Since Motitech was established in Norway in 2013, our mission has been to supporting seniors to be more physically, mentally, and socially active and to age well.

Over 16000 older people at hundreds of care facilities all over the world are benefitting from Motiview. Currently, people from Europe, North-America, Australia, and Asia “travel” the world, recalling fond memories and creating new ones – mile by mile.

Motiview was a result of a successful project by the Agency for Nursing Homes in Bergen, with the hope of improving the lives of older people and people with dementia through physical activity. They wanted to see whether the increased physical activity through cycling would affect the behaviour and psychological symptoms in relation to dementia.

A Brief History of Motitech

Motitech is the Norwegian start-up that empowers older people and people with dementia to become more active. We aim to significantly impact people around the world, empowering them to age well by increasing quality of life through physical activity, mental stimulation and social connectedness.

Based on a successful project by the Agency for Nursing Homes in Bergen, Motitech was founded in 2013 by Jon Ingar Kjenes. The project aimed to improve the lives of older people and people with dementia through physical activity. They wanted to see whether the increased physical activity through cycling would affect the behaviour and psychological symptoms in relation to dementia. Acknowlegding that motivation is key – regardless of age, our film crew was invited to make local film routes to inspire their seniors to engage and continue week on week.

Based on the project’s great success, Motitech launched the video & cycling concept under the name Motiview – with the purpose of increasing life quality for as many older people as possible around the world, focusing especially on people living in – or being service users of – care facilities and people with dementia.

Since Motitech was established, our mission has been to supporting seniors to be physically, mentally, and socially active and to age well. But our vision is bigger than just selling a product. We want to contribute in changing the game in social care, and we are therefore working to facilitate the community of care workers, volunteers and loved ones to grow. We are continuously trying to build good and strategic partnerships in all the countries we operate in. This helps growing the Motiview community and the global movement of ageing well.

What We Stand For

We care.

We aspire to motivate, inspire, invigorate, and to change lives.
All humans are equally valuable, independently of age or functional levels.

We facilitate people to live through meaningful moments.
We focus on abilities instead of disabilities.

These key drivers are reflecting the people we are as individuals and as an organisation – encompassing everything from core values to inspired single moments, within ourselves as well as with the people we work with.

Seniors at Southlawns cycling again

Southlawns, a care home in Somerset, has been part of a project using Motiview in England. They introduced the videos and bike to their residents and service users, and they loved it.

Activity coordinator Helen says: “It’s a conveyor belt of one out one in on the bike!” There is no doubt that Motiview is definitely helping people socialise and stimulating reminiscence.
