- I don’t do second. I said on day one that I was going to win, said this years champion Ruth Varcoe when she was given the big cup as this years world champion.
5 hours in average each day was enough to secure the title. And the motivation was clear- winning.
I addition to Ruth, Dunkirk had 24 cyclists who was a part of the team "The Somerset Cyclones". They were all given their well deserved medals this week.
The Somerset Cyclones finished 2nd in England and came 12th in the world!
Domination over
The women's class has been dominated by cyclists from Norway and Canada in recent years, but this year they all had to capitulate for Ruth who covered an impressive 3717.3 km!
The distance was over 600 km longer than the toughest competitors from Bruyère Village in Canada and Furuset Senior Center in Norway.
This is also the first time in RWS's 7-year history England has a world champion in any classes.
